Susan Bell Dinsmore
(1835 – 1851)
Born in Louisiana, Susan was the youngest child of James and Martha Dinsmore. Nicknamed “Susie Sweet” by her family, she stayed close to home until 1851 when she took a long trip to upstate New York to visit relatives. Her visit was to last several weeks, but was cut short by her death in a drowning accident on July 21, while boating on Lake Erie. Her body was recovered and she was shipped by boat and railroad back to Cincinnati where James was waiting. There is a print of a young girl in the Dinsmore home, bought by James to make up for the fact that there were no photographs of his youngest daughter. She is buried in the Dinsmore Graveyard.
